Avoiding Burnout With Bipolar Disorder

I found out in recent months that I have bipolar disorder. On one hand, it was extremely upsetting to receive this diagnosis, yet on the other, it is very helpful to be able to look at my behaviors and lifestyle through this new lens.

One of the ways that this diagnosis has helped me is knowing when I am on the verge of burnout and how to manage it. People with mental health disorders such, as Bipolar Disorder or ADHD, are at much higher risk of experiencing burnout.

I went through a major phase of feeling burnt out from mid-to-late 2023 and fell behind in many of my personal goals because of it. However, due to some lifestyle shifts and awareness tactics, I have been able to be productive with my personal goals whilst keeping myself from feeling burnt out.

Characteristics of bipolar disorder:

-irritability

-lack of sleep

-poor time management

-impulsivity

-racing thoughts

-troubles with concentration

-feeling hopeless or negative
